Date in Russian

There are two different forms of asking/telling the date in Russian.

One is used to ask specifically about the date without referring to an event in the question.

Како́е сего́дня число́?

What is the date today?

To answer this question the next grammar rule works:

DATE:
Nominative, adjective neuter ending, singular
OE (E)

MONTH:
Genitive, noun masculine ending, singukar
А/Я

! Use ordinal number for the date. Remember that ending Е is used only for ordinal number 3.

Како́е сего́дня число́? (What is the date today?)	1.02 – пе́рвое февраля́ 21.04 – два́дцать пе́рвое апре́ля
Како́е число́ бы́ло вчера́? (What was the date yesterday?)	3.05 – тре́тье ма́я 23.12 – два́дцать тре́тье декабря́
Како́е число́ бу́дет за́втра? (What will be the date tomorrow?)	13.06 – трина́дцатое ию́ня 30.09 – тридца́тое сентября́

Another form is used to ask about the date with referring to the concrete event in the question.

Како́го числа́…? или: Когда́…?

What day… (on what date…)? or: When…?

А/Я

! Use ordinal number for the date. Remember that ending ЕГО is used only for ordinal number 3.

Како́го числа́ты бу́дешь в Ки́еве? (What day you will be in Kiev?)	1.02 – пе́рвого февраля́ 21.04 – два́дцать пе́рвого апре́ля
